Mr. Blackwell is a Member/Partner in the firm and heads the Probate Department and Estate Planning. He has experience in estate planning, litigation, and real estate law. Estate Planning. Representation includes the design and drafting of legal documents to achieve both tax and non-tax objectives, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney for property, powers of attorney for health care, and living wills. Estate and Trust Administration. Includes representation of personal representatives and trustees in all aspects of probate and trust administration; establishment and management of Conservatorships and Guardianships. Estate and Trust Litigation. Includes representation of personal representatives, trustees, conservators, guardians, and individual clients in a variety of probate and trust litigation matters, including will and trust contests, and any breach of fiduciary responsibility. Litigation. Experience in civil litigation, including trials, evidentiary hearings, mediation, settlement negotiations, discovery, and management of complex estate and real estate cases. Real Estate. Experience in all aspects of real estate contracts, closings and litigation. Mr. Blackwell is a certified mediator in the South Carolina Circuit Court and is admitted to practice in Federal District Court. He is a member of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association and the Lancaster County Bar Association. Mr. Blackwell currently serves as a trustee for Springs Memorial Hospital, the J. Marion Sims Foundation, and the University of South Carolina at Lancaster Educational Foundation. He has recently served as President of the Lancaster County Council of the Arts and as Mayor of the Town of Kershaw. Mr. Blackwell is a member of Rotary International, teaches at USC-Lancaster, and coaches a girls' soccer club.
